Our History

History of
St Martin De Porres

The church’s foundation stone was laid in 1948, and dedicated to Blessed St Martin de Porres. While mass was said every Sunday by the parish priest of Rosebank, the church building was only completed in 1962. It was consecrated on the 6th of May 1962, the same day that Blessed Martin was canonised by Blessed Pope John XXIII. The junior primary of St Theresa’s School, founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1955, share a common boundary with the Church, as does the retirement home for diocesan priests.
