On the 1st of September 2025, we begin the Season of Creation 2025. This is a reminder for Christians and people of the world about our significant role in minimizing climate change and ecological crisis. We are all called to take serious measures to address ecological crisis. On the 7th of June’25, the Archdiocese of Johannesburg celebrated 10th Anniversary of Laudato Si- “A Decade of Ecological Conversion”.
This year’s commemoration will be quiet an emotional one, the first without Pope Francis – but his legacy lives on. The Archdiocese of Johannesburg is raising awareness and supports the call for active involvement of Christians and all people of goodwill in finding better ways to live more gently with creation. Whether you are planting trees or seeds in the garden, guiding youth through climate education, organizing renewable energy or simply living more gently in your daily life. Your work matters, it’s seen by us and we believe by the One who
calms the storm.
We are happy to celebrate Season of Creation as a Liturgical event in the Catholic Church. With Season of Creation 2025, the Justice and Peace Ministry aim to promote gathering of faithful communities in the true nature of “Pilgrims of Hope” to contemplate and nurture our Peace with Creation in-order to save the suffering planet. As Pilgrims of Hope- let’s integrate Creation into the life of the church.
The Archdiocese of Johannesburg is supporting this call and for the past three years we have been celebrating Season of Creation campaign from the 1st of September till the 4th of October, led by Justice and Peace ministry to raise awareness about our involvement and participation as people of goodwill in displaying our efforts, addressing and preventing ecological crisis.
In the words of Pope Leo XIV:
“This world is trembling from storms both environmental and spiritual.
We are reminded that true change begins within.
We pray for conversion, our own conversion.
Our Indignation is His Indignation. Our work is His work.
Our hearts labour for justice, peace and healing for our common home.
We are not alone-we are part of the living body of Christ.
Called to respond with courage, humility and love”.
